It is our job to develop programmes and activities for the young people in these areas. These programmes and activities are designed to meet the needs of the young people in that they are fun, supportive, educational and offer a space for young people to discuss their issues in a safe, comfortable environment. We consider ourselves to be very down to earth, non-judgemental and open minded and welcome suggestions and ideas from young people around what types of group meets their needs.

The Project was set up to meet the needs of the growing Youth population in New Oak/Tullow Rd. and the surrounding areas. The New Oak/Tullow Rd. Programme is one of the Projects of Carlow Regional Youth Services and is affiliated to the National Youth Federation.
The Youth Clubs cater for young people aged 5-12 years. The aims of the clubs are to provide recreational and educational opportunities, in a safe comfortable and fun environment. The objectives of the club are to help young people make friends, learn new skills and provide a social outlet where they can discuss issues that are important to them.
Afterschools ClubThis club caters for young people who are in 4th and 5th Class in Primary School. The aim of this club is to provide homework support in an informal learning structure. Organised activities are also provided which are designed to develop other skills and reward young people for their hard work.
If a group of young people are interested in a particular activity, we will do our best to provide it! Interest groups in the past have included guitar classes, DJ workshops, African Drumming, sports groups.
This club is open to all teenagers in the area. The purpose is to provide them with a place they can call their own. It will be a space in which they can talk about their issues, seek advice and support, make friends and generally feel at ease.
These camps cater for Primary School children and run during school holidays. These week-long programmes are filled with fun activities including Arts and Crafts, Games, Sports and Day Trips.
This training is provided for adults and teenagers (16+) who wish to get involved. The purpose of the training is to provide those interested in volunteering with the skills necessary to do so.
Young people can drop in at any time to seek advice and support around any issues that are affecting their daily lives, be it for a chat or just a friendly ear.
Exchanges are organised on a yearly basis offering young people an opportunity to travel and gain new cultural and fun experiences. Personal development weekends are run to reward young people who have worked hard at the project over a period of time.
Civic Link is a North/South education programme which aims to promote understanding, co-operation and responsibility through a practical community action project. This group is made up of 12 young people (15-17 years) from the Vocational School and partnered with a group in Banbridge, Co. Down (Carlow's twin town in Northern Ireland). The group select an issue or problem they find of interest, research it, analyse solutions, share with their partner group and develop an action plan. Two exchanges take place during the year (one in Carlow, one in Banbridge). The Civic Link programme is supported by The Schools Completion Programme and has two 2 hour sessions per week. It is funded by Co-Operation Ireland.
Many thanks to the volunteers for their continuous commitment. Their dedication over the last number of years has been essential in making The Project a success. Without them, it would not be possible to run the groups.
If you are over 18, interested in young people and their welfare and have some time to spare, your help would be greatly appreciated.
